It is with a very heavy heart that I make this announcement.

My husband, Eugene Galindo, owner, CEO, and President of Nu-Hope Laboratories, Inc. passed away Tuesday evening, August 15th, 2006 after a long and valiant 12 year battle with prostate cancer.

Gene took over the family silk screen printing business in 1959 following his father’s, (Edmund Galindo), death due to nephritis. He simultaneously worked as a commercial printer and managed the then newly started ostomy product manufacturing and distributing business.

A man who thrived on helping people, he later closed down the silk screen printing business and Nu-Hope Laboratories, Inc. became his main focus. A planner and a doer for 47 years, he was a well respected and liked business owner and manufacturer.

Gene’s business experience and innovative products set him apart from other manufacturers as he pioneered his way to a new understanding of ostomy care and management. His dedication and devotion to his profession earned him numerous awards and recognition from his peers and colleagues. He truly brought new hope to countless numbers of ostomy patients and their loved ones here in the United States and around the world.

Gene was a self-made man of many talents. A lover of projects and hard work, he always had several projects going at the same time, from activities at home, the church, and at work. He met challenges with an “I can do that” response. He was an accomplished guitar and banjo player. A teacher and a mentor to all. He worked with the Boy Scouts as an Assistant Scout Master. He lectured sharing his knowledge at both the United Ostomy Association (UOA) and the WOC Nurses Association’s Conferences. He was an organizer in the national U O A.. As he was an athlete and a jogger, he held fun run/walks for the UOA and WOC conference participants.

Gene has left a legacy of good will towards his fellow “man” and he will be greatly missed by all whose lives he has touched.
